In honor of the First Born Space Marines being phased out of Warhammer 40K: 1990's assault marines!

So GW has sidelined the old(er) Space Marine models from the 80's and 90's and some kits from the 200 -2010 editions of WH40K. I started playing Rogue Trader and then played through 2nd edition and 3rd edition at Ft Hood and the DFW FLGS, such as they were back then. I still have a good lot of these old models, so I thought I would home brew a new chapter and paint them up - much better than my old chapters that actually saw the tables of the 41st Millennium.  These went through some changes before being settled on. They are modeled after the old Roman Legions in Gaul and Persia. 

The roman 12th Legion Fulminata or Thunderbolt Legion.

This is one of the almost finished marines as the color looks now.

The first tries were a much lighter blue-grey.

These are the first iteration of the 12th Thunderbolt, 6th company Assault Marines.

And here they are as of yesterday and with the much darker colors and with the unit markings almost complete. I have yet to settle on the Army Badge...

 She's looking really nice so far, but the more I look, the more I see a LOT of clean up needs to be done before she's actually finished.

The Game. Work has started again....

 Picking this back up and forging ahead. The ruleset is no longer Gamma World, but a new set derived from GW 3 and 4, Twilight 2000, d20, Fallout Frontiers, Zombicide and my own sets of mechanics. The Rule Book has been added to the pile. I'm trying to pare down the rules to something efficient and fun, but encompassing a broad spectrum of possible situations at the same time.

A very wide but shallow river if you will.

And this is the new (old) workbench for my tinkering including the 60+ models I've purchased and painted this year as generic plastic X's for the tabletop. Some of them have places in the Play Book (Campaign Manual) already though!

 They are as done as they're going to get for now. Once I determine what to try and paint on the banner - I will finish it up and work the small details that are just okay right now like Kyra's face and armor. They are at a good level of paint right now, though.

And here are the mostly finished pics of Dragon and rider. I'm pleased at the overall result. The Dragon turned out to be an orange Dragon with the colors built up to be Autumnal.

 These may or may not see the table, but look so cool they're getting a custom display.

These are CMON/Zombicide 28mm plastic minis. Very detailed and not as expensive as most other manufacturers.
